Meeting Space Design for Board of Trustees
The Teachers College Board of Trustees meetings were some of the events hosted by the Smith Learning Theater at the Gottesman Libraries. As a designer at EdLab, I had the opportunity to design custom spaces and exhibits for such occasions.
December 2016: Online Learning is in the Air
As the theme of the meeting was online learning, we designed an exhibition to showcase EdLab and Teachers College's work in the field. The exhibit comprised three elements: the hanging "cloud" of news headlines about distance learning, a slideshow of relevant quotes, and examples of online learning tools developed by staff and alumni of the college. The goal was to create an exciting and informative environment for the event participants.
My main responsibilities in this project were:
Researching and curating a selection of headlines and quotes from EdLab’s recent publications on the topic of online learning.
Preparing files for production, laser cutting the headlines using cardboard, and installing the headlines in the Learning Theater.
Creating the slideshow of quotes, which was projected on the wall.
Both the headlines and quotes were pulled from the New Learning Times, which is an online publication by EdLab that focuses on news and trends in the education sector.
June 2017: Civic Education Mural
The Teachers College Board of Trustees held their June 2017 meeting at the Smith Learning Theater. I was tasked to create a mural about civic education to accompany the meeting’s theme. The idea was to project the image onto a wall and let it slowly scroll down over the course of the meeting. I gathered a large selection of articles from the Teachers College archive, and used them to create the mural which spanned the entire back wall of the Theater.
In addition to the projection mural, I designed an informational card explaining the concept behind the mural and other projects that were on display at the meeting.
