Alphabet Houses

36 Days of Type is an annual open call that invites designers and artists to express their interpretations of the letters and numbers in the English alphabet. The project lasts for 36 days, and the participants post the design of one letter/number on Instagram each day. 2019 was my second time participating in this project. I enjoy doing this, because it allows me to push myself creatively. It is also inspiring to see the amazing variety of expressions that other designers and artists create.

For my 2019 series, I turned each letter and number into a house/residential building. The idea came from a brief thought I had, that it would be fun to live in buildings that looked like the alphabet. The lines and curves in the letters and numbers presented unique challenges when I tried to envision living in them. Most of these buildings would be rather impractical in the real world, but it was also eye-opening for me to realize that buildings don’t always have to be rectangular.
